Dieting & Weight Loss In Adelaide—Simple But Not Easy

It’s the new year and resolutions abound, a common one being the familiar promise of “I’m going on a diet.”

Sounds great. Sounds simple—and it is … in theory.

In practice however, dieting isn’t easy. If it were, you’d see many more success stories and far more people succeeding on their own without the need for outside support or guidance.

The truth is that dieting is hard. It’s challenging. But it’s also immensely rewarding, with huge payoffs for both your physical and mental health, making it absolutely worth the effort.

At Naru Fitness, our university-qualified personal trainers love working with people who require a champion for their dieting and weight loss in Adelaide—so they can achieve their goals and become who they want to be.

If you’re new to tracking food, it can be difficult to know where to start.

Don’t get overwhelmed! We’re here to help.

Regardless of what diet or nutritional approach you’re taking, a key point to remember is that it always comes back to calories in versus calories out.

Calories in is determined by the food and drinks you’re consuming, whereas calories out will be a mix of the exercise you’re doing and what’s called NEAT or ‘Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis’. NEAT describes the calories you burn through non-exercise activities, and includes activities like standing, walking, and general movement.

Calories out is also impacted by the basic physiological functions your body requires to survive—such as breathing and pumping blood!

To succeed in your Adelaide weight loss journey, your calories out should exceed your calories in regardless of what your specific diet is.

Whether it’s intermittent fasting or you’re exploring keto, carnivore, paleo, mediterranean, or other diets, the main thing to remember is that your calories out should be more than your calories in.

We often see people binge or go off their plan if their hunger isn’t managed effectively, so to help reduce your calories in we recommend prioritising lean protein sources, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and wholegrain or fibrous foods to promote fullness. Stick to primarily single ingredient foods and limit consumption of highly processed shelf items.

As much as you’re able, prepare and cook your own meals. This reduces the number of times you’ll eat out and saves you time, money, and calories—and you’ll also become more aware of what’s in the food you’re consuming, which helps keep your weight loss goals front of mind.
